North Fork of the American River - What it's like?
Beginning as just a mild stream, the North Fork quickly gains momentum and soon enters the "Chamberlin Falls Gorge.." Rated a Class IV, it is certainly the most intricate of all the forks of the river. Running in spring and early summer only, when the melting snow from the Sierras are moving into the water, the North Fork rushes through an exceptionally steep gorge wedged small building sized boulders and pushes over waterfalls that reach up to eight feet in height. Crystal clear, endless rapids are the trademark of this challenging and very technical white water rafting river. One of the most beautiful rafting rivers in the state, and the American River should be attempted by those who are in good physical condition and who have previous rafting experience.
